These three easy drinking, organic and biodynamic wines are the perfect complements to your summer plans: beach, pool, park, boat or grill. It’s no coincidence that all of these wines hail from Austria. I’ve found no other country whose wines offer better value than here.
Includes 2 bottles of each. 2 whites and 4 reds.
Schödl Grüner Veltliner ‘Classic’ 2018
Refreshing and easy-drinking Grüner Veltliner. The wine shows a dazzling nose with notes of grapefruit, apple and spice. The lower alcohol and refreshing acidity make this wine a go-to drinking companion.
Sepp Moser Zweigelt ‘Hedwighof’ 2017
Just a couple of hundred meters away from Austria’s lowest point of altitude, on the banks of Lake Neusiedl, the Hedwighof vineyard’s high proportion of old vines, gravelly subsoil, and position atop an ancient seabed leads to bright and complex fruit flavors and lovely salinity.
Zweigelt, a cross between St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch is Austria’s most plant red grape and yields wines that are bright, fruity and a little tart.
Schödl St. Laurent ‘Dorflagen’ – 2018
Classic cool climate red wine sourced entirely from Schödl’s sandstone and chalky loess soils plots in Loidesthal and Blumenthal. St. Laurent hails from the Pinot family and is typically a deeper colored, beefier version of Pinot Noir. This wine was fermented in stainless steel to retain varietal freshness and then aged in large oak casks at a constant natural temperature.
